This 1940s dress is made form a polyester stretch velvet. The pattern is from an extant garment in Victoria and Albert Museum. The dress is made from two pattern pieces. The front and back have fullness in the skirt and give a nice teardrop shape on the floor. The ruched bit is the best bit of formality and vivaciousness. The neck line and the arms eyes are finished by hand and the stitching is hardly noticeable. The hem is just need ing to have the same finishing as it is just overlocked right now.
